The Company
History
Founded in 2002, Payne Insurance Services was started by Bucky Payne as a result of his desire to offer insurance products for any insurance need. Bucky Payne began his insurance career in Florida while growing up in the family business. His family's Florida based agency, Chapp Inc. and Citrus Insurance Services Inc., began in 1977 and is still operating. This agency provides the backbone of the North Carolina operations and assists in management decisions.
In 1999, Bucky Payne began his North Carolina insurance career working for North Carolina Farm Bureau. After spending nine years as a golf professional he took a position in the Lee County Farm Bureau office. While he enjoyed many successes at NCFB he soon realized that his time with the company would only be a stepping block to opening his own agency. In the summer of 2002, Erie Insurance approached him about opening an office in Sanford. After several months of negotiations and planning, Payne Insurance Services was open for business on January 1st, 2003.
